This shell cast pendant with crystal glints represents the academic and martyr of female intellectual pursuits - Hypatia of the Alexandria. Defiant in her curiosity for science and wonder, she expressed some of the first records of feminism - choosing equal access and expression in fields of science and philosophy. She was stoned to death for her commitment and beliefs. Her legacy inspires our conviction for our truth, and our desire and birth right for wonder, whether intellectual, spiritual or sensual.
This Sabi pendant was named after the Japanese Aesthetic of Wabi Sabi, a tradition that celebrates transience and imperfection. This bronze and pearl pendant is patinaed by sea salt and in this aging process, reminds us to accept the flow of life and learn to accept the grace and beauty of our humanness and imperfections. Thin rope embellished with a bronze disk and a fresh-water pearl.
This neckpiece is a celebration of the Byzantine empress Theodora. North African trade beads, freshwater pearls and glass beads are handcrafted and sewn into a fourth century adornment with an African feel. Theodora was one of the most-influential women of the ancient world. She was a champion of women's rights, and symbolized the union of North Africa, Middle East and the Roman Empire. She was a queen whose controversial past did not define her. She reminds us to forge our own history, and to walk with the mythology of our ancestry to guide us.
This piece, in every incarnation, honours the lifetimes and lives within every woman. It honours the process of creating and recreating, of composing a story and an identity from every experience of the feminine journey.
